Do you want to escape the stress of everyday life and make the best of the winter? How does wellness with an alpine panorama, delicious traditional food and skiing on over 300km of slopes sound like? I was able to enjoy all of this in Oberlech and it was simply amazing! Simple, uncomplicated and relaxing on so many levels. So that you can follow my footprints and experience it for yourself, I will give you some insights and impressions from our trip now:
Warm welcome in Oberlech, Arlberg in Austria
I don’t even have to mention how excited we were to spend 2 nights in a beautiful alpine hotel like the 4-star Hotel Goldener Berg and go skiing! After a few hours drive from Augsburg we arrived at the Oberlech cable car station. We parked our car there and were welcomed by the staff of the cable car station that took our luggage and brought it straight to the hotel – absolutely stress-free for us! Our luggage had already been taken to our panorama suite which made things so much more easier. The room itself was absolutely amazing! Modernly furnished, a big bathtub in the room and a huge sun terrace! And as our arrival day was also St. Nicholas’ Day, there was a little St. Nicholas present (bag of nuts and a chocolate Santa) in our room. Furthermore, you could find goodies everywhere in the room, whether in the mini bar or on the shelf – delicious drinks and sweets were always available!
As we were a bit exhausted from the drive, we relaxed the rest of the day and then went to eat in one of the hotel’s four restaurants – the Dirndstüberl. The food was absolutely exquisite and the ambience was very cosy. In general, all restaurants of the hotel are traditionally furnished and serve modern Austrian dishes.
Luscious breakfast and wellness at the modern alpine hotel Goldener Berg
The hotel highly values healthy food and little to no added sugar, which by the way was also evident in the breakfast buffet. There was a huge choice of fresh products, fruits, juices, teas and much more. But my absolute highlight was the juice extractor that made every juice you could think of – absolutely brilliant! After the abundant breakfast with wonderful panoramic views we went to the wellness area of the hotel. There is really everything a wellness lover’s hearts desires: sauna, pool, Jacuzzi and a wide range of wellness treatments. A fitness studio is also available for sports enthusiasts. I used the free time to devote myself to my goals for 2020 and to review the year 2019. In the evening we had dinner at the Johannesstübli, a vegan and vegetarian restaurant of the hotel which has already won several awards – with good reason! The evening ended comfortably in our room with an absolutely breathtaking view of the mountains.
Oberlech skiing area: 305km of prepared slopes and 200km of deep snow runs
The weather on our last day was an absolute dream! Sunny and warm – it couldn’t have been better! So we started the day with some wintersport. The Oberlech skiing area has a total of 88 cable cars and over 300km of prepared slopes. For the more adventurous skiers there are also 200km of deep snow slopes. From November to May you can ski in this alpine region with pistes suitable for every level! If you want you can also take the cable car to St. Anton or down to Lech for some shopping, Apres Ski and mulled wine. Thanks to the late check-out option we could enjoy a hot bath after the exhausting day before heading back home again.
Looking back, this weekend was absolutely awesome and super relaxing. So, if you want to escape your stressful everyday life for a few days in winter, Oberlech at Arlberg is the perfect destination!
