Pure nature, white mountains, cozy ambience, lots of wellness and good food, the sun is shining and there is just you and your best friend. Sounds good? Then keep on reading about my very special short trip to Austria´s winter wonderland Leogang, which is just so much more than a very good skiing area.
I was more than excited when I got invited for this alpine press trip to the popular Mama Thresl Hotel. Unhesitatingly, I picked up my very best friend Nadine and we made our way to that modern lifestyle hotel based in Leogang with just a 2 hours drive from Munich. Arriving there, we immediately fell in love with the very special vibe at this unique place. The perfect environment to have a cozy & unwinding weekend with your bestie. A trip for relaxation, nature experience and loads of quality time!
After our arrival, we were surprised by a stunning accommodation with a double bedroom and amazing mountain views. With its wooden design, a hammock on the balcony and open shower, this venue is just more than inviting for a relaxed getaway. We started our stay right by having some wellness in the sauna with mountain view and a wooden fired oven to handle by ourselves. What you definitely don’t want to miss at a hotel like this, as it just makes every stay to a very unique experience, is the food! As the evening went on, we had alla-card dining picked from a high quality menu. They have an excellent kitchen and we totally enjoyed eating there. My Kabeljau and the white wine that went with it were just sooo delicious.
Also the next day’s breakfast was easy to describe in one word: whole! Total fulfillment through a variety of served fresh food. No more open wishes, we got everything we wanted for an awesome breakfast. Eggs in all varieties, cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruits, freshly baked bread & Juice.
Strengthened and full energized after breakfast, we went up the mountain by cable car, starting directly next to the Mama Thresl Hotel. It was about 20€ per person for the ride up and down in total. For all ski & snowboarders, it´s also an amazing opportunity to have the station so nearby the hotel.
After we have spent some time enjoying views at the middle station we made it up to the mountains top, where we checked out the awesome panorama restaurant Hendl Fischerei. Designed in a modern & exquisit way its intention is doubtless to invite you for having an unforgettable lunch, while enjoying the breathtaking panoramic views… window front. As a daughter restaurant of the Mama Thresl hotel, the level of culinary and drinks is always held in high quality. And in moments like this, there is nothing better than having meaningful conversations with your best friend, surrounded by the white alps and kissed from the warm sun.
Of course we really enjoyed the mountains, the snow and especially the sun. We took a lot of good pictures on our way down to have another sauna session to calm and relax a bit after my stressing last weeks. Recovery was exactly the thing I needed the most.
Later in the evening we were invited to the Huvi’s Alm, a beautiful restaurant, based in Priesteregg, a little Village higher up on the mountain. They serve a special local way of dinner called “Hut-Essen”. I can’t tell you, how simple and at the same time how amazingly good this food was. You can imagine it is like raclette or fondue, just in the form of a hat, where everyone sits together on a table and does his own meal by frying directly in the middle of the table. We had an absolute awesome dinner with good wine and even better conversations in an enchanting ambience.
In reflection, Leogang and the region Saalbach Hinterglemm is definitely a place for every age and taste. Either in summer or winter, it is so worth the visit, as you can find your favorite activity to spend amazing days over there at anytime. It´s a very big and popular Ski area, where you can have a high dosage of fun, all winter long and normally extremely good piste conditions. In summer you can go hiking, mountain biking, climbing or even pour out lots of adrenaline by trying out the Flying Fox or summer toboggan.
Also for of my Techno friends out there, there is one special occasion to go to this place, when there is this sick festival going on every mid of December, called Rave on Snow. Its line-up is incredible!
Although it was a just a few days short trip, spending valuable time, with my loved best friend was exactly what I have needed after so much work & Uni stress. In combination with wellness and a freeing alpine environment to reboot ourselves, it was such a great time. For sure, we also had much luck with the weather conditions during our vacation. The sunniest, bluest sky, fresh-air overdose and the shining white snow: What a perfect scenery. Try it for your own!
